The PlayStation is Sony's first home video game console, released on December 3, 1994 in Japan and in North America on September 9, 1995. The PlayStation began development after Sony's failed venture with Nintendo to create a CD-ROM peripheral for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The console was popular thanks to its extensive game library, popular franchises, low retail price, and aggressive marketing towards adolescents and adults. In 2000, a smaller & cheaper redesigned console, named the PS One, was released.
== Collection Specifics ==
My PlayStation is the original model, which I bought from a Goodwill thrift store for $20 in November 2019.

=== Hardware ===
This PlayStation has issues reading discs. Sometimes it works, but very slowly and unreliably. Eventually I plan on attempting to fix it.
