The 13-inch 2015 MacBook Air is an entry-level MacBook compared to the more powerful MacBook Pro. The 2015 MacBook Air came in an 11-inch and a 13-inch variant. Both variants had the option between 128 GB and 256 GB of PCIe SSD storage, either an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, and 4 GB or 8 GB of DDR3 RAM.
Collection Specifics
My specific model is the 13-inch model with a Core i5-5250U, 4 GB of LPDDR3 1600 MHz memory, and a 128 GB SSD, which is all base spec. I got this laptop refurbished from Decluttr for $365 in 2019 to use as a school laptop before I replaced it with my Dell Inspiron 3501. The Dell laptop has been faster and higher spec than this MacBook, but the battery life in this MacBook Air is a lot better than the Inspiron in my experience. That's the one major complaint I have about switching.
Operating System
Originally, this MacBook Air would've shipped with Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite, from 2014. OS X El Capitan wasn't released until September 2015. When I got this MacBook, I installed macOS Catalina installed since it was the most recent at the time. Eventually, with macOS 13 Ventura in 2022, Apple dropped support for most Mac devices older than 2017, which includes this MacBook, leaving it stuck with macOS Monterey. However, thanks to the OpenCore Legacy Patcher, I have macOS Sonoma running on this MacBook now.
Hardware
I haven't done any hardware upgrades to this machine yet, but I do hope to eventually upgrade the internal SSD since 128 GB is a bit small.
