The iPod Touch is an Apple mobile device that looks very similar to an iPhone, but lacks the ability to use cellular data and some other features that the iPhone has. The iPod Touch was the last product remaining in the iPod lineup before Apple discontinued them on May 10, 2022. The 3rd generation iPod Touch was released in September 2009, unveiled at Apple's media event. This generation of iPod Touch had a 32 GB and 64 GB variant.
Collection Specifics
I got this iPod Touch at a White Dove Thrift Shoppe, a Phoenix-area thrift store chain, for just $6 on January 21, 2023. I also got my 1st gen iPod Nano at the same time for the same price.
Operating System
The 3rd generation iPod Touch originally shipped with iPhone OS 3.1, which came out on the same day as the iPod, and the last version to officially support it is iOS 5.1.1 from May 7, 2012. When I bought the device, it was running iOS 5.1.1 and I restored it to factory default iOS 5.1.1 to remove personal data from the previous owner.
Since then, I have jailbroken the device with redsn0w in order to get some use out of it still.
