The ThinkPad T460s is a part of the ThinkPad's T series of laptops, which is a business-oriented lineup of laptops. The T400 series is the 14-inch lineup of the T series. The T460s is a slim ultrabook, released in February 2016. The T460s could be bought with the choice of a 6th gen Intel Core i5-6200U, i5-6300U, or an i7-6600U. 4 or 8 GB of RAM could be chosen, soldered on the motherboard, with an additional expansion slot. Intel HD integrated graphics came by default, but the laptop could be configured with an optional NVIDIA GeForce 930MX. The T460s also has an anti-glare 1920 x 1080 IPS display and has 2 internal batteries.
Collection Specifics
My specific model is the one with the Core i5-6300U, 8 GB of RAM, and Intel HD Graphics. I got it on July 12, 2023 for $63.75 + $9.40 shipping off of eBay to use as a better Windows laptop for school. Since I had many issues with the Dell Inspiron 3501's battery life, this ThinkPad should hopefully prove to be better and I also chose this over my 2015 MacBook Air because I need to use Windows for many things. While this is a very nice laptop, performance was getting a bit sluggish with Windows 11 and since I happened to come across my new ThinkPad X280, with its better performance and battery life, I've decided to replace this laptop with the X280 as my main laptop as of August 2024.
Operating System
Originally, this laptop came with Windows 10 Pro, version 1703. I have since upgraded it to Windows 11 Insider Preview builds since those can apparently be installed on 6th generation Intel CPUs, even though they are not supported for the official release of Windows 11.
Hardware
The only hardware upgrade I've done on this machine is replacing one of the two internal batteries because it was dead and would not charge.
